Elgato Game Capture HD PlayStation 3/Xbox 360 Recorder for Mac and PC up to 1080P (10025010)
This is a complete new review on the Game capture HD after the software version 2.0 update.
Packaging:
very well packaged. it comes with all cables you need, including an
HDMI cable, incase you dont have a second one for passthrough.
Installation:
very easy. plug HDMI from console/PC/phone/whatever into Game capture
HD. plug "out" HDMI into TV. plug USB 2.0 into computer. done!
Software
installation: easy. go to the website, [...] download the drivers for
your system (OS X/Windows) install, and your ready to go. minimum
requirement are very low!
Software use: the software is the best
recording software i have ever used. i would like to say i am a veteran
in the field, as i have used the HDPVR, the BLack magic intensity, and
now the Game capture HD. when you first open the software, you must
choose what you are recording, be it Xbox, PS3, WiiU, iPhone/iPad, or
OTHER(which works for PC and anything else). the settings you can get
are different for each device. there is a quality slider, from 1mbps to
30mbps. now in testing the other recording devices, they all limit you
to 15mbps, so this should already tell you the recordings will look
better. you also have the option of changing recording resolutions. now
this is whats cool, you can record at 720p60, but play at 1080p60, or
play at 1080p60(passthrough) and record 1080p30. this is really nice as
your computer is not doing the scaling, the game capture HD is. you can
also stream to twitchTV is you want. all you do is sign in, choose your
closest server, choose a resolution(360p, 480p, 720p) and a bitrate and
then hit the "stream" button. this also has a cool feature. you can
stream and record at the same time, so if you want to post a higher
quality version later, you can!. the software also has LIVE COMMENTING.
you select a microphone, the input volume, and boom, live commentary.
overall, this is the best software+hardware combo for a recording device
out there. GO AND BUY IT!.

This product is amazing, it took me about 10 seconds to get it out of
the box and another 30 seconds to plug it. Another 20 seconds
downloading the latest software from elgato and there I was playing and
recording HD. THAT is the way things should work.
This product exceeds my expectations from a capture card. My favorite
ability from its software it that it actively encodes video as a
temporary file so you can go back and record that game when you didn't
press the record button. The quality it produces is astonishing for a
capture device its size. Record up to 1080p so you can get that true HD
quality. If you are into gaming and/or want a hobbie/career on YouTube,
this is a must have.
I own a mac so there isn't much choice in game capture but this card
works wonders! I gave it 5 stars for that reason alone but the quality
the ease and seamlessness makes this the best choice in my eyes. You
could also head to my channel and look at the quality. The legato also
records even while your not recording so you can rewind live gameplay
and then start recording where you want so you don't have to pause your
game! Perfect condition works like a dream couldn't ask for more!!
Excellent product. Love the software and the rewind option that lets you
go back 60 minutes to catch clips you did not record. Hooks up easily
and enough options to use on a low end laptop. Thumbs up for the various
adapters and cables that are included with this device. Love it and
after opening it was up and running in literally 10 minutes. No crashes
and no problems yet.
I absolutely love this capture card! the quality that puts out is
amazing. One of the greatest out there and worth every penny! My
favorite feature is if you forget to record something you can easily
scroll back on the software and find it and record it all while
re-spawning into your game!
I bought this because my DirecTV DVR was getting full of programs I
wanted to keep, and there was really no way to get them off. I tried to
buy an Avermedia stick that just plugs into the side of the computer,
but I could not get it to play nice with Windows TV (Kept requiring a
remote, and I don't have that...).
So now I have this amazing
little device. The upside is that so far, it's worked flawlessly. I
have transferred several programs off of the DVR and onto the computer
to archive. Not only that, it's basically plug-and-play, once you
download Elgato's software to your computer. Plug being the operative
word here. Since I'm using my DirecTV DVR, and DirecTV encrypts the
HDMI signal, I used the component cables to connect from the DVR to the
Elgato. Then, HDMI from the Elgato back to the TV. And lastly the USB
cable from the Elgato to the computer. As soon as that's done, and the
software booted up, voila! You have the same feed playing on your
computer as on your TV. Just hit the big red button to start and stop
recording, and that's all there is to it.
Lastly, if you need to
do some minor editing, the software has that capability as well, so if
you're on the fence, just go ahead and buy it, you won't be sorry.
