My son asked for a PVR for Christmas to record his x-box live games to upload to U-Tube. I had no idea what a PVR even was, but decided on this unit because it is made specifically for gaming. Right before Christmas, my son indicated that he hoped I bought the Hauppauge Gaming PVR - SUCCESS!! He was able to upload his first video to U-Tube today - It came out awesome. (He did need some help with the ShowBiz software - luckily, I have used ShowBiz for several years, so I was able to help walk him through the steps.) This unit satisfied a very picky teenager!!

UPDATE!!!!
I've been using HDPVR 2 for a week now and here is an update. I use it mainly to record TV shows in HD from DirecTV.
Over all the quality of the recordings is very good and it seem be very rock solid. Unlike the original HD-PVR, it runs a bit warm. But the top cover is metal and seems to absorb any extra heat.
It has a very cool blue light when in preview mode. When it starts recording, the ring turns green. Very cool and you always know without having to look at your PC screen when its recording. This was one of the things I liked most about the old HDPVR.
No problem what so ever after 96 hours of back to back 30 min recoding and so I think they have a real winner here. I'm making my recordings from component video and I'm using 1080p (though the manual says this doesn't work, it's working great for me).
So far I haven't had any problem with resolution with source input from DirecTV on SageTV with the settop in native resolution + Component/HDMI 480i, 480p, 720p and 1080i.
I read on their website that WinTV v7 now supports HDPVR2. Woohoo!

Few things I'd like to see fixed:
Passthough only works with the device plugged in to the wall. It would be nice if passthrough worked without being powered on.
Scaling doesn't seem to work, but I need to test this some more to be sure.

Well when i first bought this product it worked great and exceeded my expectations. This was my first PVR i have ever bought and didnt know what to think. Well about a week after use it stoped working and i couldnt figure out why. I was ready to return it but decided to email the tech support to see if they could help me. An hour later i recieved a reply. A few more emails later we figured out exactly what the problem was and how to fix it. The product works perfect and is great for recording on Xbox 360.
I would reccomend this product to anyone looking for an easy way to record gameplay. The editing softwear is not that great but that is not a deal breaker. I still use the softwear it comes with and it is very easy to use just not alot of options. Thanks for a great product!!

Finally! Fully HDMI compatible and with an output of 1080p, one might have expected this to be the most expensive PVR available. It was easy to set up and in no time I was recording an insane match on Battlefield 3. I have an XBOX 360 setup, by the way. I will admit though, I spent around 3 days adjusting different settings to get a decent picture; only to find out that all I had to do was increase the encoder's bitrate. For those of you who end up getting, or are currently getting, pixelation when there's a lot of panning from side to side, hit the Capture tab, go into Format Settings, and head on over to the Video Encoder section to change both the bitrate and peak bitrates. I set them both to max (14MB) and was treated to a sexiest resolution I've seen from any PVR.

I bought the hdpvr2 for my boyfriend so he could record his Xbox. He's a pretty dedicated gamer and he was really struggling to figure out how to upload his games onto YouTube. I did some research and found the happage hdpvr, and then read about the hdpvr2 so I got that one instead for his birthday (aren't I a great gf? :-) )

I gave it to him last Friday night and he started to install it pretty much immediately. It took him about 20 minutes to install since he needed to move some cables around to handle his dell laptop. Friday night he started to youtube his gameplay and his friends are completely crazy that he's able to get his videos on their channel. I'm thinking of getting him a different editor since the one hes using is pretty old. If anyone has a suggestion on an editor which works with his pvr, please leave me a note here.

This was so easy to hook up ..and didnt have to change no sttings on the Hauppauge at all ...great video play back just hit record in ur off ,,,easy to put on you tube ,,,tnx ...I RECOMMEND TO ALL WHO WANTS ONE

This HD PVR 2 GE is a must if you want to start capturing your gaming footage, with the bitrate set to its highest settings (14.0 MB) the quality can not be beat. With proper editing software (Sony Vegas Pro) and proper render settings your captured clips will look there best on any site.

Pros: Great Quality, HDMI in and outputs (XBOX use only), 1080p / 30 fps, 720p / 60 fps, plug in and update and your ready to record, Max Settings take about 1 GB of HDD for every 10 minutes.

Cons: Must be plugged in when Console is turned on or no video will show, Randomly the PC and HD PVR have a issue with finding each other when the USB cord is unplugged and plugged back in (Unplug AC power on PVR and plug back in to fix)

If your looking to start capturing your gameplays this product is a must get, I have already recommend my friends on my friends list to get it and like them you should really consider getting this today. Remember! If it wasn't captured on your Hauppauge HD PVR 2 GE, then it never happened.
