Ok, this is an update review and if you guys read my review you would know I had a rough start with this device as my USB controller was not compatible with the unit since day one, all I have to say is if you're having problems with the device contact tech support they will take care of you, I've waited three weeks for this error to be taken care of and it was worth the wait; the team over at Hauppauge finally delivered and made things right!

I'm so happy I purchased this device and chose to stay with it, as it has the best raw quality out there, all the other devices out there have washed up color, who cares if you can do color corrections this capture device captures the game as it is seen on your TV so no need to add another task to your video editing anymore!

Now my only concern or "wishlist" feature would be to have 1280x720p/60fps downscaling as an option as 1080P is to large of a file to pretty much work with. If I can play in 1080p/60fps and capture in 720p/60fps then that would make this device a winner!

Steven: it sounds like you are having a basic tech support problem, the Windows driver stops "seeing" the HD PVR 2. Please contact our tech support department and they will tell you how to fix this problem. The fix is pretty easy so please contact them:
support@hauppauge.com
We had a three month beta program with over 100 users where this problem did not come up, but we do understand that some customers are having this problem which seems to happen with certain USB bus controllers. It is fixed now so contact us.

Lastly, we are rolling out new features for HD PVR 2 over the next few months. The first new feature is the Personal logo inserter, which will be launched next week. This allows you to create a 150x100 pixel BMP, GIF or PNG file and "burn" this logo into all of your recordings. This is a great feature which we think everyone who posts videos onto YouTube will want to have.

Keep an eye on our Facebook page, which is where we will be announcing the new features as they become available.

Thanks for sticking in there with us as we address the problem you have been having.

Saved up a wile and researched alot and I love this recorder. The quality is great and the editing is very easy and after the update was able to make personal water marks for my vids. The only gripe I have the fact you can't use HDMI to record PS3 you have to you composite hd.This by no means is a downgrade in quality its just alot more conveniant for me to have HDMI work. All in all very easy to use and I highly recommend this to anyone who wants high quality recording.

I would love to be able to write a great review of this product, however, I am still waiting on a 3rd party to come out with a patch for it to work with my iMac. My question is this...Is there a particular reason it doesn't support Macs right out of the box? Is it because Macs have a lower market share than Windows machines? If that's the case, I understand the decision from a business standpoint, but it sure is frustrating. And yes, I knew this prior to purchasing the product. If I'm going to spend my money, I'm going to get the best product my money can buy, and after reading many reviews and opinions, the Hauppauge products are the Gold Standard in the game capture community. You Sirs receive five stars from me. But again, it sure would be nice if it worked with my Mac right out of the box. It does look pretty sitting on the shelf next to my Xbox. I'm ready to see it in action. Keep doing good things Hauppauge.

18OCT2012 Update:

Long overdue for this update, however, I have purchased the software from [...] to make this device compatible with my iMac. Let me tell you, I love this thing. I am very happy with the product. The guy running the show over at [...] is a solid guy and seems to have a good head on his shoulders. The support he offers is spectacular. I do not have any experience with other products, such as the Elgato or any of the other various products that are on the market, but I can happily tell you that I am very pleased with the HD PVR 2 and the software from [...] If you are running a Mac and are on the fence about this product, move forward with confidence, you will be very happy.
Gamer guy: Hauppauge has always supported creative third party developers who make great applications for our products. We have licensed our SDK to over 2000 software developers around the world, and we support these developers by providing direct access to our engineering team. In order to encourage the great software development community, we like to partner rather than compete with these developers. There are a number of developers, some in the US and some in Europe, who are working on applications for the Mac which use the HD PVR 2. We prefer to encourage them to do great work rather than compete with them, which would hurt our relationship.

There are great things coming for Mac users from our software partners. I realize that this means the support is not "out of the box" but you will be happy with the applications these developers will deliver. We believe this is the best way to encourage lots of great applications.

Got the PVR2 and it's AWESOME! So much better than the previous one, 1080p, HDMI and apparently they're coming out with some awesome updates to improve quality within the next few weeks. People who are saying they can't set it up are tech noobs :P If you had a previous version of ArcSoft you need to uninstall it (like it says on the letter you get in the box) and THEN install the new software It's really not hard to follow lol. A lot of people also saying it's flickering etc.. prob have wrong settings on their consoles. Awesome device!!

I purchased this a little over 2 months ago and it has exceeded my expectations always working flawlessly.

Quickie review if you are trying to decide between this, the Elgato HD Game Capture. Get this, it puts less strain on your system and in my opinion looks a lot better.

The software that comes with the HD PVR allows for many recording options and though I only record my xbox 360 I am sure other consoles would yield similar results. Something I don't like about the software is that it does not allow for a microphone to record during game play from my computer, though it records in game volume just fine including party and game chats. The software will make you choose between game audio or a microphone. And if you choose a microphone the audio is out of sync and needs to be re adjusted in an external video editing software. The soft ware that comes with the HD PVR also has a small, very limited video editor and personally I feel was a waste of time. These capture companies need to be more concerned with their device and the ability to record with it, than making some cheap video editor that is not even worth my time.

I spent a very long time researching before I bought this product and so far am very satisfied. The recording software that HD PVR uses works really well however there is a delay between pushing the record button and the recording actually starting. This causes problem when recording something in the heat of game play or if you want to record a match because you have to start it before hand and edit out the beginning. I found that using a screen recording software like camtasia studio 8 will record the game play preview with full resolution and frame rate and also allows for commentary recording from an outside device like my microphone.

Overall I am very satisfied with my purchase and suggest that anyone looking to get a game capture device, this is the best option right now.

at first i was like damn xbox you cant fit component cables and hdmi but with the the help of hd pvr support i was amazed.i am now on youtube and love this.

Starting my own Youtube channel on video games and sports. This Hauppauge HD PVR is everything I guess it would be and more. Enjoy using the product more and can't wait to start working on my channel and putting up videos.

I like everything about it, if you are going a game capture machine...this is the one you want!

Performs exactly they way I need it. It's extremely light and the one-touch recording feature is extremely useful for when I need to record. I've dropped it once, already, and it still continues to work. Though, I would never advise doing so just to test the HD PVR 2's durability. The overall quality is great and the ability to use HDMI is so much less of a hassle than component cables. The only thing that I don't like about it, which certainly is not enough to take off a star, is that the blue LED doesn't match my PC's. Honestly though, if that's enough to detract the overall awesomeness of the HD PVR 2 from you, then it's not for you.

Hauppage earned these 5 stars, and I can't wait to see what they come up with in the future in terms of product updates and new devices.
